Instead of a cash deposit, the council provides a £1,000 bond guarantee against damage valid for 12 months on 1-bed self-contained and family accommodation, or a £500 bond guarantee valid for 6 months on HMO accommodation. Available to owners of empty residential properties where the owner is unable to fund works through an Empty Property Loan or other private funding. One grant per property. Property must be occupied as a primary home within 6 months of the date works are certified complete by the Council. Where works to meet health and safety standards exceed the maximum, applicant must utilise own funds before accessing council assistance.
Landlords taking council-referred tenants through the Private Sector Lettings Scheme receive a rent guarantee of up to 9 months for 1-bed self-contained and family accommodation, or up to 3 months for HMO accommodation. Free tenant-finder scheme housing council-referred households. Landlords letting 1-bed self-contained or family accommodation get up to 3 months' rent in advance plus a £1,000 cash contribution towards initial costs such as repairs, EPC and gas/electrical safety certificates.
