Cardiff empty home schemes

Cardiff offers a landlord incentive scheme - money paid or guaranteed to landlords who let to council-referred tenants, such as guaranteed rent, rent in advance or a deposit guarantee. Each scheme below links to the council's own page where you can verify eligibility and apply.

Guaranteed rent / leasing
Guaranteed LHA-rate rent for 5-20 years; property grants up to £5,000 (£25,000 for empty homes)
Eligibility

Landlords lease the property to the council for 5 to 20 years and receive guaranteed monthly rent at the relevant Local Housing Allowance rate with no voids or arrears, plus full property management. Properties must meet Welsh Government standards, with grants of up to £5,000 to reach the standard and EPC C (up to £25,000 for empty properties). Cardiff delivers the scheme locally - contact PrivateRentedSectorLeasingScheme@cardiff.gov.uk.

Council tax premium

A property is classed as "long-term empty" once it has been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for a qualifying period. The premium is charged on top of the standard council tax bill.

Notes

Welsh unitary. Participates in the Welsh National Empty Homes Grant and Houses Into Homes umbrella (welsh-government rows).
