Welsh Government runs 2 empty-home schemes for landlords and owner-occupiers bringing long-term empty properties back into use. Each scheme below links to the council's own page where you can verify eligibility and apply.

Active schemes

National Empty Homes Grant

Up to £25,000 grant
Eligibility

Property must have been empty for at least 12 months. £50m national fund delivered across 17+ participating Welsh local authorities and administered by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.

Houses Into Homes

National scheme
Up to £25,000 per property (£250,000 per applicant) loan
Eligibility

Recyclable loan fund (£43m) for refurbishing empty homes in Wales. Loans up to £25,000 per property, £250,000 per applicant. Delivered via participating Welsh local authorities.

Notes

Welsh Government rollup covering two active national schemes: National Empty Homes Grant up to £25,000 per property (15% owner contribution, 12-month empty rule, 5-year main-residence commitment), applications open until 30 September 2026; Houses Into Homes interest-free loan up to £25,000 per property and £250,000 per application, capped at 80% LTV.
