Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme

Deposit guarantee
Bond or guarantee replaces the cash deposit; covers uninsured loss or damage
Eligibility

The council issues a bond or guarantee to the landlord in place of a traditional cash deposit for tenants who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, with a local connection to Wolverhampton and on a low income. The tenant must accept a 12-month tenancy, agree to housing benefit being paid direct to the landlord, and sign a savings agreement towards a future deposit. Apply via Housing Options.

Council tax premium

A property is classed as "long-term empty" once it has been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for a qualifying period. The premium is charged on top of the standard council tax bill.

Notes

No empty homes loan/grant. Means-tested Healthy Homes grant for owner-occupiers (repairs, electrical, roofing, UPVC) is not empty-property focused. Earlier £500 legal-fee pilot is not an active funded scheme.
